The Next Phase Begins

HOPE for LIVING has always been about just that – hope for living for those who have lost hope. This can occur in different ways, whether through natural disaster, poverty or social disparity. In those times, we want people to know that there is still hope for living, and that hope is Jesus Christ.

After a very successful program in Tacloban, Philippines, this year New Life Ministries is preparing to help children in crisis – at-risk youth in Manila and Mindanao, Philippines by providing the HOPE for LIVING Philippines materials through a well-established educational program for street children, called the pushcart classroom, wherein the classroom is brought to the street children via a pushcart stocked with teaching supplies, reading materials, tables and chairs. We have the privilege of partnering with Mr. Efren Peñaflorida, 2009 CNN Hero and his team at Dynamic Teen Company, and the Department of Education of the Philippines. This new project will be deemed HOPE for LIVING Philippines: Children in Crisis.

For the Manila project, HFLP materials will be used as the main reference books in teaching values education to the children at-risk living on the streets. For the project in Mindanao, the aim is to equip volunteers to reach out to children of indigenous groups in the region, to help instill Christian values, as reflected in the Biblical manga stories. The ultimate goal is to discourage these children at-risk from joining insurgent groups in the area that prolong the internal conflicts in the island. The goal of the project is to reach out to approximately 8,000 children across 52 activity centers that DTC and DepEd are focusing on in these areas.
