Two full years have passed since a coup d’etat had thrown Myanmar into disarray in February 2021, yet there have been no signs of improvement. Under such circumstances, the displaced local communities have been receiving Bibles in the Sqaw Karen language printed by New Life Ministries.
Thank you for remembering us and our ministry in your prayers. Please continue to remember and pray for the people of Myanmar.
Today we would like to share with you the testimony of faith of one sister who received a Sqaw Karen Bible.
My name is [A]. I used to have a very strong faith in Buddhism. I live in [X] Village in Myanmar. I always strongly stood for Buddhism and against other religions, especially Christianity, because the Sqaw Karen Christian pastors always said God is the eternal God who is powerful, and He is the living God who created all things.
I really hated Christians and I never allowed them to share Jesus with me.
In 1992, when I was 29 years old, my two legs and two hands were paralyzed and I could not move them and I could not even feed myself.
I spent my time laying on my bed. My parents brought me to the Buddhist monks and gave so many sacrifices to the monks so that they would pray and heal my paralysis.
The famous monks prayed for me, but I was not better.
Then my parents brought me to the doctors. They did many scans, and it cost a lot of money.
Finally the doctor told my father that they could not heal me. He said there is no hope for your daughter to ever get better.
So they discharged me from the hospital. But my parents spent so much money at the hospital that they lost their lands that they had sold in trying to help me.
We were all discouraged. There was no strength left in me and I gave up my faith in Buddha. I just wanted to die as soon as possible.
But I couldn’t do anything to die. I couldn’t walk in order to buy poison and kill myself. So I was just lying on my bed all the time.
After two years of this, pastor [C] visited my house and asked if he could pray for my health.
But I said I didn’t want his prayers. A week later he visited me again and this time by force he prayed for me and shared Jesus who healed the woman who had an issue of blood for twelve years. Because of her faith she was healed (Mark 5:25-34).
He told me how Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, and many more healing stories about Jesus. I became interested in what he shared and I became motivated that I wanted Jesus to heal me from my paralysis.
I asked the pastor to share more about Jesus. He came again the next day, early in the morning, with a big smile on his face and he shared Jesus with me for four hours.
After that I still wanted to hear more. All of his sharing about Jesus was so sweet in my ears and precious in my heart.
After he shared I decided to commit my heart to Jesus, so the pastor prayed for me.
I wasn’t healed, but all my sadness was gone. Now my heart was filled with happiness, and for a while I forgot that I was paralyzed. I cried to the Lord and accepted Christ as my personal savior and Lord.
I kept praying every day after this, and slowly my fingers, hands, and legs slowly started to improve. After three months I was totally healed. Praise the Lord!
I shared with others about Jesus who healed my paralysis, and it was encouraging to them.
I wanted to learn more about Jesus, so I wanted to read the Bible, but there was only one copy of the Bible in our whole village.
Only the pastor had a Bible, so I only heard the scriptures when the pastor read them in church.
The Bible was left on the church’s pulpit, but no one was allowed to ever touch it. So I was thinking that the Bible cannot be owned by lay believers. But I really wanted to read the Bible, so I have prayed with faith every day since 1995. I was able to save enough money to buy a Bible, but there were no Bibles available to buy in our area, and at that time not even in Yangon. So I kept praying to own a Bible.
Now after 27 years of praying, God has answered my prayers and I received a free Bible. How great is our God! My favorite Bible verses are Isaiah 54:10 and Hebrews 13:8.
Thank you very much to those who donated and who worked hard for our poorest Sqaw Karen people, like me, to be given free Bibles.
Your rewards in Heaven are great. There are many more villages where the people don’t have Bibles and some churches don’t even have one Bible.
They need your help and they are praying to be able to own a Bible in their family.
I strongly believe that God will answer their prayers through you in the very near future. God bless you all more and more.
Sqaw Karen Bibles are being distributed along with relief supplies by mission partners working in Myanmar and Thailand. Please remember and pray for them as they are distributing the Bibles in very dangerous circumstances.
New Life Ministries needs your help to print and provide these Bibles to our mission partners at the lowest possible cost. The costs for paper, ink, utilities, and transportation are all sharply rising.
Please continue to pray and support us so that this work may not come to a halt.
New Life Ministries is a non-denominational Christian ministry committed to serving the Lord by printing and sending Bibles and Gospel literature to Japan and the rest of the world, in each people group’s heart language.
Beginning in 1954, under the name New Life League, the ministry reached out to children, provided Gospel literature, and did evangelism through radio broadcast.
Later on, the work shifted more to the collection and printing of Gospel literature as the main focus.
Throughout history, there has always been a call for the supply of Bibles, and New Life Ministries has continued to do all that it can to meet the demand. Our purpose is to see Japan changed for Jesus, and that the whole world be filled with His precious Word.
