The Beautiful Journey of the Pukapuka Bible

Pukapuka is a small, remote island in the Cook Islands. Its people, few in number but rich in tradition, have lived here for many generations. But for a very long time, the people of Pukapuka did not have the Bible in their own language.

“We have always dreamed of reading a Bible in our own language. Something very special happens when we read and hear God’s Word using biblical verses that we truly understand.”

Printing Bibles in Minority Languages

The people of Pukapuka speak a special language. Because this place is so isolated, many Pukapukans had to rely on English translations, which, though helpful, did not carry the same depth of meaning for those whose first language was Pukapuka. By having the Bible in their own language, Pukapuka’s Christians and those they are trying to reach can experience a deeper and more unique connection with the Lord.

“Having the Pukapuka Bible means our people can truly understand God’s message in a very personal way. This is the language of our parents and grandparents. This is a very meaningful gift for many generations.”

In a world where minority languages can easily be lost, having the Bible in Pukapuka is priceless.
The Bible, now in the Pukapuka language, is not only a spiritual resource but also a cultural milestone that ensures their language remains strong and relevant.

As one island leader explains,

“For us, this Bible is more than just words. It is a living, breathing part of our faith. We are passing down the Word of God to our children, grandchildren, and future generations in a way that is deeply rooted in who we are.”

NLM’s Mission to Reach the Ends of the Earth

As a Bible printing ministry, New Life Ministries has had the privilege of witnessing the long, challenging, and yet incredibly fulfilling journey of translating and printing God’s Word into minority languages.

Many people and organizations played a part in this journey – the faithful prayer warriors, the talented translators, many hard-working missionaries, the local churches, and the generous communities who worked tirelessly to make this dream a reality.

This printed Bible is not just a book — it’s a legacy of bringing God’s message of hope and salvation in the heart language of the Pukapuka people. This is a beautiful example of what happens when communities and believers come together to empower one another through the Word of God.

It is a blessing for New Life Ministries to play a small part in making this prayer a reality. May the Pukapuka Bible continue to inspire and bring lasting change to the lives of the Pukapuka people and those who love them.

New Life Ministries is deeply grateful to everyone who has supported this mission to reach the lost and share God’s Word with the people of Pukapuka.

Without your prayers, partnerships, and donations, this dream could not have become a reality. Together, we are not only reaching a remote island with the Gospel but also helping to preserve a language and culture that has stood the test of time.

Let us continue serving the Lord together in this Bible printing ministry.

ABOUT US

New Life Ministries is a non-denominational Christian ministry committed to serving the Lord by printing and sending Bibles and Gospel literature to Japan and the rest of the world, in each people group’s heart language.
Beginning in 1954, under the name New Life League, the ministry reached out to children, provided Gospel literature, and did evangelism through radio broadcast.
Later on, the work shifted more to the collection and printing of Gospel literature as the main focus.
Throughout history, there has always been a call for the supply of Bibles, and New Life Ministries has continued to do all that it can to meet the demand. Our purpose is to see Japan changed for Jesus, and that the whole world be filled with His precious Word.
